Premier Energies Limited and RCT India, part of Germany’s RCT Group, have entered into a binding term sheet to form a joint venture for a 12 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Telangana. The proposed project marks Premier Energies’ planned expansion beyond solar manufacturing into battery energy storage.

The company disclosed the development to the stock exchanges on September 10, 2026, under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations & Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The announcement was made through a press release titled “Premier Energies, RCT India, part of RCT Germany to Form JV for 12 GWh BESS Manufacturing Targeting India and Global Markets.”

Facility planned in phases

The proposed facility will be developed through Premier Energies’ subsidiary, Premier Battery Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The first phase is planned at 6 GWh, while the overall manufacturing target is 12 GWh.

According to the companies, the facility is intended to serve demand from commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications in India and international markets. The project is also envisioned as an export-oriented manufacturing platform, with the partners aiming to supply energy storage solutions to customers overseas from India.

The partnership will combine Premier Energies’ manufacturing capabilities with RCT’s energy-sector experience, engineering expertise and international supply-chain network. The companies said they intend to develop globally competitive BESS solutions through the proposed joint venture.

Expansion beyond solar manufacturing

For Premier Energies, the proposed partnership represents a move into another segment of the renewable energy value chain. The company currently describes itself as an integrated solar manufacturer with more than 30 years of solar manufacturing experience, including the production of solar cells and modules.

Premier Energies Managing Director Chiranjeev Saluja said energy storage would be important as India expands renewable energy generation. He said the partnership with RCT would provide access to the growing storage market and support the development of BESS products for domestic and international customers.

RCT India Managing Director Sukumar Reddy Madugula said the venture would bring the group’s global expertise, engineering capabilities and execution experience to India’s BESS sector. He described the planned facility as a potential platform for serving markets globally.

Focus on India and overseas markets

The companies said India’s expansion of renewable energy is increasing the need for energy storage to manage intermittency, improve grid flexibility and support reliable power delivery. They said the proposed facility could contribute to domestic BESS manufacturing while addressing requirements from renewable power developers, commercial and industrial consumers, and utility-scale projects.

RCT Solutions Group said it has more than 10 GW of experience in setting up BESS-related projects worldwide, supported by in-house engineering and operational capabilities for large-scale battery storage development in Europe. The group also cited international industry relationships and local delivery capabilities in India.

The announcement establishes the planned capacity, development structure and intended markets for the project. The first phase is expected to account for 6 GWh of the proposed 12 GWh facility, although the release did not provide a construction timeline, investment amount or expected commissioning date.
