Romanchakam Movie Review: Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Make This Youthful Entertainer Work
Romanchakam arrives with an interesting combination. It has a young lead pair, a fresh director, a story revolving around a dating app and, of course, the backing of Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Pranay Reddy Vanga. But the real question is whether the film works on its own rather than simply depending on the names behind it.
Early reactions suggest that Romanchakam has plenty going for it, particularly its humor, youthful treatment, and the chemistry between Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar. The film is directed by Venugopal Reddy, making this his first feature as a director.
Films like Romanchakam are a reminder that audiences are still willing to return to theaters for the big-screen experience when the content offers genuine entertainment and a reason to watch it in cinemas.
Romanchakam Story
The story follows Anvesh, played by Sumanth Prabhas, a young engineering graduate who decides to start a dating-app business with his friends.
Ironically, while trying to build a business around relationships, Anvesh finds himself falling in love.
Ananthika plays a Tamil girl whom Anvesh meets through the dating app. Their relationship begins online and gradually moves into the real world. What looks like a simple love story soon brings its own complications, misunderstandings, and emotional moments.
The film doesn't stop with romance. Friendship, comedy, and suspense are also woven into the story, giving Romanchakam a slightly different flavor from a routine love story.
Sumanth Prabhas Is a Good Fit for Anvesh
Sumanth Prabhas gets a role that suits his youthful image.
Anvesh isn't written as a larger-than-life hero. He is a young man trying to figure out his career, relationships, and the people around him. That makes the character easier to connect with.
The actor has also spoken about the amount of preparation that went into the film. According to the team, rehearsals and workshops were conducted before filming, with director Venugopal Reddy focusing heavily on getting the performances right.
That preparation appears to have helped, particularly in the scenes involving the friends and the lead pair.
Ananthika Brings a Different Energy
Ananthika Sanilkumar gets a character that is quite different from some of her previous work.
She plays a lively Tamil girl, and the character has been designed to match Anvesh's energetic personality. The conversations between the two are one of the film's important elements, and early reports have specifically mentioned the natural chemistry between Sumanth and Ananthika.
Rather than treating the heroine as someone who simply exists for the romance, the film appears to give her enough space within the story.
The Comedy Seems to Be the Biggest Strength
This is where Romanchakam could separate itself from a regular romantic drama.
The film has been built around friendship, humor, and situations that come naturally from the characters. Producer Pranay Reddy Vanga has particularly stressed that the comedy isn't forced and that the humor comes from the characters and their situations.
That is important because youthful films can easily become a collection of predictable comedy scenes. Romanchakam seems to have tried to keep the humor connected to the story.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has also spoken positively about the finished film, saying that he laughed even more after watching it than he did while hearing the story.
The Telangana Setting Gives Romanchakam Its Own Flavor
One of the noticeable aspects of the film is its Telangana backdrop and language.
The makers have used the local slang and style of conversations as part of the film's humor. The censor-related reports also specifically mention the Telangana dialect and the local flavor of the scenes.
This could work particularly well for Telugu audiences because the characters are not speaking in an overly polished or artificial manner.
At the same time, some of the language and dialogue reportedly led to objections during the certification process, with certain changes suggested before the film received clearance. The film has been certified UA16+.
What About Sandeep Reddy Vanga?
The presence of Sandeep Reddy Vanga naturally creates expectations.
But Romanchakam isn't his directorial film. He is presenting the movie, while his brother Pranay Reddy Vanga is the producer. The direction is entirely handled by Venugopal Reddy.
Interestingly, Pranay Reddy Vanga has said that Sandeep did not interfere in the making of the movie. After watching the first cut, however, Sandeep was reportedly very happy with the result.
So it would be unfair to expect an Arjun Reddy or Animal-style film here. Romanchakam is aiming for something much lighter.
Romanchakam Review: Does It Work?
Based on the available premiere and first-review material, Romanchakam appears to be a genuine youthful entertainer rather than a film relying only on its promotional hype.
The combination of romance, comedy, and suspense gives the story enough variety. Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika look comfortable together, while the supporting characters and friendship track provide much of the humor.
The Telangana flavor is another plus.
The one thing that will ultimately decide the film's success is how well all these elements hold together in the second half. Early reports are encouraging, but the broader audience response will give a clearer picture after the September 3 theatrical release.
