Canara Bank has informed the stock exchanges that the functioning of its branches and offices may be affected by planned strikes announced by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The bank said it is taking steps to maintain smooth operations, but cautioned that services could be impacted if the strikes take place.

In a filing dated September 10, 2026, Canara Bank notified the BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India about the strike decision under the disclosure requirements of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015.

Strike dates announced by bank unions

According to the filing, the UFBU has announced strike action on September 11, 2026, followed by a three-day strike from September 28 to September 30. The unions have also announced a continuous strike beginning October 26, 2026.

The notice was issued after the bank received information about the decision from the UFBU. Canara Bank did not state in the filing whether the strikes would definitely occur, instead saying that branch and office functioning may be affected “in the event the strike materializes.”

The UFBU consists of seven unions named in the disclosure: the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), Indian National Bank Employees’ Federation (INBEF) and Indian National Bank Officers’ Congress (INBOC).

Canara Bank preparing for possible disruption

Canara Bank said it is taking all necessary steps for the smooth functioning of its branches and offices on the announced strike dates. However, the bank acknowledged that operations could still be affected if employees participate in the strikes.

The filing did not provide details about the specific services that could be disrupted or the measures being arranged for customers. It also did not quantify the potential impact on branch operations.

The notice was signed by Santosh Kumar Barik, Canara Bank’s company secretary, and addressed to the listing departments of BSE Ltd and the National Stock Exchange of India. The filing was published through the NSE corporate announcements platform on September 10, 2026.

Customers may therefore face possible changes to branch-based services on September 11 and during the later announced strike periods. The bank’s disclosure indicates that further operational details, if required, would depend on whether the planned strikes materialize and on the arrangements made by Canara Bank.
