India retain Asian Games women’s compound archery gold, equal world record

India retained the women’s compound archery team gold at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating China 238-234 in the final. The victory also saw the Indian trio equal the world and Asian record set by South Korea in 2014.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Thaniparthi combined to secure the title for India. Their win preserved the country’s position at the top of the event after India also won the women’s compound team gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

The final was decided by a four-point margin, with India finishing on 238 points and China on 234. The performance matched the record established by South Korea in 2014, giving the Indian team both the Asian and world mark on the basis of the score.

India overcome South Korea in semifinal

Before facing China in the final, India defeated South Korea 234-233 in a closely contested semifinal. South Korea had set the record that India equalled during its successful campaign at the Games.

The semifinal victory placed India in the gold-medal match and set up a contest against China. India then produced the higher score in the final to retain its title in the women’s compound team event.

The result continues India’s record of winning a medal in every edition of the women’s compound team event since 2014. The latest gold extends that run while also adding another title to the team’s record at the Asian Games.

Vennam’s continuing record

Jyothi Surekha Vennam has now been part of all four of India’s medal-winning campaigns in the event. Her presence across each of those campaigns makes her a constant in India’s run of success since the women’s compound team event began its medal-winning sequence in 2014.

Vennam, Pradeep and Thaniparthi’s victory gives India another Asian Games title and matches the benchmark set by South Korea. It also underlines the consistency of India’s women’s compound team, which has remained on the podium in every edition since 2014.

India’s next achievement in the event will be measured against the record already matched in the final: 238 points, the score that brought the team gold against China and equalled the world and Asian record.
