Tanya Chaudhary sets Indian women’s hammer throw record

Tanya Chaudhary set a new Indian women’s hammer throw record with a 68.35-metre effort at the Indian Athletics Series Final, surpassing the previous national mark held by Anushka Yadav.

Chaudhary’s throw improved Yadav’s record of 67.02 metres. The performance also placed Chaudhary ahead of Yadav in the event, with Yadav finishing second after recording 66.34 metres.

Chaudhary moves ahead in national rankings

The new mark gives Chaudhary the current Indian record in the women’s hammer throw. Yadav had previously held the national record with her 67.02-metre effort.

The two athletes were separated by more than two metres in the final standings. Chaudhary’s 68.35-metre throw was the decisive performance, while Yadav’s 66.34-metre effort secured second place.

The result also has significance ahead of the Asian Games. Chaudhary and Yadav are both part of India’s Asian Games squad, meaning the national-record performance comes as the pair prepare for the continental competition.

Men’s hammer throw record also falls

The Indian Athletics Series Final also produced a national record in the men’s hammer throw. Nirbhay Chaudhary recorded a throw of 71.02 metres to set the men’s mark.

That meant the event featured national records in both the women’s and men’s hammer throw competitions. Tanya Chaudhary’s effort was the headline performance in the women’s event, as she moved beyond the previous record held by her Asian Games teammate.
