Have a Wardrobe Full of Clothes but Still Nothing to Wear? You May Be Styling Them the Same Way

Standing in front of a wardrobe full of clothes and saying, “I have nothing to wear” sounds ridiculous. But most of us have done it.

The problem isn't always that you need more clothes. Sometimes, you're simply wearing the clothes you already have in the same few combinations.

That favorite pair of jeans gets paired with the same shirts. The same sneakers come out for almost every casual outfit. And after a while, even clothes you like start to feel boring.

The easiest fix may be to change the way you put things together.

Take a shirt you normally wear with jeans and try it with trousers instead. Wear a T-shirt under an open shirt. Swap your usual sneakers for loafers or another pair of shoes. Even changing one small part of an outfit can make it look completely different.

Fit is another thing worth checking.

A piece may look ordinary on the hanger but work surprisingly well once it is paired with something that balances its shape. A loose shirt, for example, can give a relaxed look with straight-leg trousers, while the same shirt can feel sharper with a more structured pair of pants.

Then there are the clothes sitting at the back of the wardrobe that rarely get a chance.

Maybe you bought a jacket months ago and have only worn it once. Or there is a pair of trousers you like but never seem to find the right occasion for. Instead of waiting for the “perfect” outfit, try building something around those pieces.

Accessories can help too. A watch, belt, sunglasses, bag, or even a different pair of shoes can change the feel of an otherwise familiar outfit without making you look overdressed.

And before buying another pile of clothes, take a second look at what you already own.

If most of your wardrobe can only be worn in one or two combinations, adding more pieces may not solve the problem. Buying clothes that can work with several things you already own is usually a smarter approach.

So, the next time you look into a packed wardrobe and still can't decide what to wear, don't reach for your phone to start shopping.

Try something you haven't tried before.

You may already have more outfits than you think.
